Submit

Want to submit some of your works to the Miscellany Magazine? We'd love to see it.

Writing:

The writing category includes original work such as personal essays, opinion articles, editorials, reviews, poetry, and short stories. Anything goes, but they have to relate to creative expression and/or art in some way.

For complete, finished works:

  1. Ensure that your piece has been edited and grammar checked.

  2. We reserve the right to edit. But don't worry, it'll be minor tweaks.

  3. Any photos or videos accompanying the piece should be submitted separately. You can email it to us, just put the title of your piece in the email subject.

For pitches of pieces:

  1. Potential topics for editorial pieces/essays include:

    • Commentary on the art world- contemporary and past

    • Culture that surrounds art and creators, art history

    • Coverage of art events (i.e. fashion week, exhibitions, etc.)

    • Interviews with distinguished figures in the industry

  2. Include your overall plan to develop the piece, as well as the first few paragraphs of your work.

We accept various formats of submissions, but the guidelines are listed below. If your work does not fit in one of the categories below, please contact us. While this looks like a whole chunk of words, don't worry: it's really quite simple once you go through it.

General Guidelines:

  1. You must be twenty or under to submit work. There may be slight flexibilities with this rule. As usual, contact us for inquires.

  2. All works (unless you are submitting writing) must be accompanied by a short written statement. This should outline your intentions with the piece, and anything else you would like to express. This is what helps others understand and connect with the piece, and ultimately strengthens your submission. Minimum of 800 characters (not words--characters).

  3. All works must be submitted with a short bio. You may list your accomplishments, hobbies, favourite aspects of your art, etc. Maximum 400 characters.

  4. If you would like to remain anonymous, please state this in the "other comments/questions" section, or "short bio" section.

Visual Arts:

The visual art category includes painting, sculpture, drawing, digital graphics, and other visual forms (excluding photography).

  1. Please submit a photo of your work (jpg or png). This should be a good-quality photo that solely features your work.

Music submissions can include a performance on an instrument, covers (vocal or instrument), and original music compositions.

  1. You may upload a video file under 100 MB. If your video is over that limit, please submit it through email.
